This is just preliminary documentation to accompany an upcoming training video and WindSock article that may or may not ever get written.

There are several types of trackable devices:

FLARM Registered with OGN DDB (Not FLARMnet!)

Mode S Transponder with ADS-B Out

There are several types of receivers that upload to various clouds:

OGN Receivers, like the one at SOSA

- Only receive from FLARMs
- Respects No-Track option, respects opt-out from DDB
- Uploads to OGN Cloud
- For DDB-registered devices, copies position data to FlightRadar24
- If not registered, Flarm shows up with randomized label, no sharing with FlightRadar24
- Oudie with internet and FLARM is an OGN Receiver in the air

Transponder Receivers, privately owned and operated

- Receives GPS positions from Mode S transponders
- Combines Mode C signals between receivers to triangulate positions (MLAT)
- Transmits data to FlightAware, FlightRadar24 and/or ADSBExchange clouds
NemoWX Receivers
- Proprietary technology, not openly documented

- Receives from Nemo Scout trackers
- Receives from FLARMs (Does not respect No-Track or DDB opt-out)
- Receives data from transponder sources
- Contains a weather station, webcam

- Transmits FLARM and Nemo Scout positions to OGN Cloud
SPOT and XCSoar self-trackers

There's a long list of tools to look at the live data in the various clouds:

Displays data from the OGN and serves as a multiplexing hub
If a FLARM is not registered in the DDB, an anonymous ID is displayed
For FLARMs tracked by NemoWX Stations, the NoTrack and Stealth settings are not respected

GlideAndSeek
- Only shows gliders and towplanes, no other OGN traffic
- If a FLARM is not registered in the DDB, an anonymous ID is displayed
- For FLARMs tracked by NemoWX Stations, the NoTrack and Stealth settings are respected
GliderRadar
- Displays all OGN traffic, also visualizes range of receivers
FlightRadar24
- Shows FLARM positions from OGN only for devices registered in the DDB
- Does not show NemoScout positions
- Maintains their own network of Transponder (S and C) receivers
- Transponder owners can pay money to disable tracking
ADSBExchange
- Shows no FLARM or NemoScout or other OGN positions (i.e. XCSoar or SPOT)
- Maintains their own network of Transponder (S and C) receivers
- Transponder owners cannot pay money to disable tracking
NemoWX
- Proprietary technology, not openly documented
- Shows FLARM positions from OGN and from its own receivers
- Sends FLARM positions to OGN from its own receivers regardless of NoTracking
- Shows Transponder traffic
- Might not handle XCSoar and SPOT positions from OGN
- Might someday rebroadcast NemoScout positions from base stations using FLARM protocols
OGN Viewer Android App
- App runs on your phone and shows similar traffic to GliderNet
- Relays glider positions (not power or Nemo) from OGN to XCSoar
